MY LAST DAY!

I cannot believe that today is my last day! I've learned so much during these past three weeks and i will take everything i learned with me everywhere i go. When i first started the internship i had no interest in becoming an librarian, but after meeting the librarians at HCL i can honestly say that i will consider becoming a librarian. Even if i don't become an librarian i will never forget all of the librarians at HCL, they welcome me with open arms when i first started the internship.

I would like to thank Tina for everything that she has done for me. Tina, you are one of the nicest people i have ever met and i will never forget all of the things that you have done for me! I will definitely stay in touch! (you don't have to worry about that)

I also want to thank all of the employees at HCL. You guys took time of your busy schedule to explain your job titles and make us feel welcome. To everyone who Steven and i interviewed i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, because of you guys we were able to write good articles.

Once again i would like to thank everyone who helped Steven and I especially with the podcasts!

I had an awesome time while i was here and i am sad that i am leaving

WEEK 3- DAY 14!

OMG! Tomorrow is the last of my internship! No more waking up in the morning! Sike just joking. But wow i cannot believe that after tomorrow i won't be here anymore. I really am going to miss this place but don't worry i will be in touch.

Well today we interview Rhonda Altonen the media specialist here at HCL and i really enjoyed the interview. I learned that ever though she has been a librarian for 20 years she still wanted to challenge herself. She is currently in school to recieve her MLS.

Tomorrow is our last interview and as you know it will be with Dr. Cohen. From what i hear Dr. Cohen is a funny character and i cannot wait to interview him.

WEEK 3- DAY 13!

Today was the slowest day ever, but i'm not complaining! We had extra time to work on our podcasts and finish up oour articles. Tomorrow we have our interview with Rhonda and on Friday we have our last interview with Dr. JJ Cohen.

WEEK 3- DAY 12!

Today we did another podcast interview with Dr. Corbin. We used our old recorder and the recorder that Abbey gave us so hopefully the quality of the podcast is better than our first podcast.

Dr. Corbin was a really cool person. I learned numerous things about integrated medicine and alternative medicine. Our podcast is currently under construction but i can't wait until its finished.

Tomorrow there aren't any interviews scheduled so that will give us some extra time working on our podcasts. On Thrusday we are going to interview Rhonda and then our last interview will be on friday.

Wow i can't believe that in 3 more days our internship will be over :(

WEEK 3- DAY 11!

Wow its already the last week! I've been having fun for the past two weeks but i have to admit i can't wait to have my summer back (lol). It will be a total of eight weeks that i have been on this campus and its a been an awesome experience.

Today wasn't a busy day that i was used to. We did have an interview today but it got cancelled :( By not having to do the interview it gave us more time to work on our podcast. Jim from IT helped us get our audio file on the computer and into MP3 format.

Now that we have our audio file we have to edit the file. We were having some problems with that so we asked Abbey to help. She has more experience in podcasting so anything that she does will be a great help.

Tomorrow will have another podcast interview and Abbey was kind enough to let us borrow her recorder that already has an USB connection. Hopefully tomorrow's interview won't have any problems.

(P.S I want to thank IT department and Abbey for all of their help.

WEEK 2- DAY 10!

Today was the big day! lol We finally got to interview Dr. Winn! He is such an amazing and inspiring character. We took the shuttle to the 9th ave. campus which was pretty cool. I got to see the old Denison library that everyone was talking about and wow the new library is a huge upgrade!

While interviewing Dr. Winn you can see how modest he is. His Curriculum Vitae was over 13 pages long and by talking with him you couldn't have know. I look at Dr. Winn as a role model because there aren't many African Americans in the health field especially as the Assistant Dean of Admissions. I just felt really honored that i got to interview such a cool person.

We tried to get our podcast on the computer but we are having some problems hopefully we can figure out what's wrong.

TGIF!! This was such a BUSY week! At least tomorrow is a Saturday and i can sleep in! See yall on Monday! BYE!!

WEEK 2- DAY 9!

Today was really fun! At 9:00 Steven and I went to see the rare artifacts and books. All I have to say is wow! I saw a book that was dated back to the 1800’s! Not many people can say that they seen an old doctors bag from the civil war. I’m happy that I was blessed with the opportunity to see all of the rare artifacts.

After our artifacts tour we interviewed Lisa Traditi, the Head of education. Lisa Traditi is a really funny lady. We got to play with her flying monkey and we also learned about the head of education does.

Later on in the day Steven and I went to a PubMed class. The class was really helpful. I learned how to search for articles and learned that Google isn’t always a good place to search for health related topics.

Tomorrow is or interview with Dr. Winn. I cannot wait but I’m kind of nervous at the same time! Hopefully the interview will go well and we figure out how to put our recordings on the computer!

WEEK 2- DAY 8!

Today was another busy day. In the morning Steven and I interview the IT Department a.k.a "the cool department". We learned numerous things about the IT Department and we even got advice for our own computer problems.

Right after our interview with "the cool department" we interviewed Ruth Gilbert the Volunteer Librarian at HSL. OMG! Ruth Gilbert was such a sweet lady. She has been volunteering for over 20 years! (be sure to read are articles on the IT Department and on Ruth Gilbert! its currently under construction)

After lunch we have the opportunity to tour PASCAL. All i have to say is wow!! There are over one million books stored and books are still coming! PASCAL has so many books that they are actually building another storage room!

Today was a fun day and i loved the PASCAL tour! BYE!! i have to go!

WEEK 2- DAY 7!

Today was jammed packed! Right at 9:00 Steven and I had to interview Jo Hall, a Cataloger at HSL. The interview went really well and I learned a lot about cataloguing. Be sure you read our articles at our Chili Blog!

After the interview we had some time to research podcasting and set up a bloglines account. Our first podcast interview will be on Friday and we will be interviewing Dr. Winn and I cannot wait! Hopefully Steven and I can start practicing our own podcasts so we can be fully prepared for interview with Dr. Winn.

We also attended a Firefox and Expert Googling class and boy was that class helpful! I never really used Firefox or iGoogle, but the class showed me all of the advantages of using those programs and from now on I will be using Firefox and iGoggle.

After the Firefox and Expert Googling class Steven and I rushed off so that we can interview Dana Abbey, the Consumer Health Information Liaison at HSL. We learned some cool stuff about her and her job. (the article is under construction!)

Like I said before today was jammed pack! But it still was fun and I’m still enjoying my time here as a library intern.

WEEK TWO- DAY 6!

WOW it’s already week 2! Today was by far the busiest day since becoming an intern. At 8:30 Steven and I went the Department Heads meeting and it was as bad as the other meetings that I attended. Right after the meeting Steven and I went to shadow Blake and Nell to get a better understanding of ill (interlibrary loans). We had the opportunity to scan and find books that people wanted to borrow.

After lunch we went to another meeting about podcasting. This meeting was different because Steven and I actually participated and we understood what was going on. Beth Tweed, Addie Fletcher, and Blake Valdez also attended the meeting and without them I know that for a fact that Steven and I would still be confused about podcasting. We learned the basics how creating a podcast and I cannot wait until we get started!

DAY 5!

TGIF! (lol just joking) This week went by too fast! Today my partner and I have the pleasure of going to Castle Rock with Tina and Helen for the Circ. Managers meeting. We went to the Philip Miller Library and that was one of the coolest libraries I ever been to. They had this teen tower center that had video games as well as books, computers, and many other things just for teenagers!

For lunch we went to a Mexican restaurant and the food was really great. The best thing about the trip was being able to get to know Tina and Helen a little better. It was so much fun that it didn’t seem like we were at work.
Well I guess I’ll write more on Monday. Bye!

DAY 4!

Today I learned about prospector; it was pretty cool how libraries all around Colorado and in some other states share their books as well as many other things to other libraries to make it easier to their patrons. I learned many things about librarianship and I can honestly say that their most important job is to serve the patrons and they do it happily!

Later on Steve and I interview Douglas Stehle, the Head of Access and boy was this an interesting interview! Once we started the interview it was obvious that Mr. Stehle loved to talk; we really didn’t have ask him any questions because once he started talking he answered all the questions that we had in mind. Also Mr. Stehle interview lasted an hour and twenty minutes! Time flied by because the interview did not seem that long. With the extra time my partner and I learned a lot about the head of access, to see what we learned make sure you read our article on him; I’m sure it will be interesting!

DAY 3!

Wow, day three is already here; work seems to go by really fast which means I’m having a lot of fun! In the morning we researched podcasting which was great benefit because I had no clue what podcasting was. Later on in the day we interviewed Lillian Hoffecker, one of the reference librarians at the Health Sciences Library. The interview was excellent! I had fun learning about what a reference librarian does on a typical day. I also learned about Mrs. Hoffecker’s education background and her past careers.

In the afternoon my partner and I attended a Medconnect meeting. It was interesting how many libraries came together to help so some problems that occurred in their libraries. Overall today was a fun day and I can’t wait to interview Douglas Stehle, the Head of Access.

DAY 2-- OUR FIRST INTERVIEW!!

Today Steven and I interviewed, Jerry Perry, the Library Director. It went extremely well! At first, my partner and I worried that we were given more time that was needed to conduct the interview, but once we finished we wanted more time because Jerry Perry was such an interesting character. Mr. Perry helped us tremendously because he loved his job so much that he couldn’t stop talking about it (just jokingJ). For this being our first interview I feel that Steven and I performed excellently, but there is still plenty to learn. Tomorrow we will be interview Lillian Hoffecker. She is the Reference Librarian at the Health Sciences Library; hopefully this interview will go as well as Jerry Perry’s interview! Wish me luck!!

In addition to our interview with Jerry Perry, my partner and I had the pleasure of sitting in a meeting among the librarians at the Health Sciences Library. The meeting discussed many topics that I really didn’t know much about, but I enjoyed that I was able to see how librarian or any other job meetings were conducted.

For lunch there was a staff picnic and boy there was a lot of food!! I couldn’t get enough of the strawberries and whipped cream. It was the best whipped cream that I ever tasted! We also played games and chatted with some people that I never met before.

My First Day!

Today was really exciting. I never had a job before so I didn't know what to expect. Tina, my boss, illustrated the numerous duties that Steven and I would have to perform. Of the tasks, Steven and I have to interview various faculty members throughout the campus. Our first interview will be tomorrow and we will be interviewing Jerry Perry, the Library Director. I’m kind of nervous being that this will be my first interview, but I have good faith that my partner and I will be able to pull it off.

While explaining our responsibilities as an intern, Tina gave us a quick tour of the library. I met many faculty members and they were really nice and helpful. I could tell that this was a fun as well as loving environment and I am happy to be apart of it. I also intend to make the best of this opportunity so I can use all of the information that I am going to learn in the future.
